The Color of Conversation: A Chronicle of Racism in America -- movie clips and a conversation with director Jeffery Robinson.

Attendees will view clips of the in-process documentary "A Chronicle of Racism in America" and hear from director Jeffery Robinson on the making of the documentary.

Tariana Navas-Nieves, Director of Cultural Affairs for Denver Arts & Venues and LaDawn Sullivan, Director of Leadership & Equity for The Denver Foundation, will join Jeffrey in a panel discussion moderated by Arthur C. Jones, Ph.D., Interim Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Denver.

ABOUT THE FILM: 

For over three decades, attorney (and now ACLU Deputy Legal Director) Jeffery Robinson has devoted his career to racial justice. In recent years, he has traveled the country speaking hard truths about race in America. “Our history,” he tells audiences, “has been stolen from us.” Weaving heartbreak, humor, passion, and rage, Robinson takes us through this stolen history, showing us how the legacy of slavery and U.S. imperialism impacts every aspect of our society.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:

Jeffery Robinson is a deputy legal director and the director of the ACLU Trone Center for Justice and Equality, which houses the ACLU's work on criminal justice, racial justice, and reform issues. As a public defender in Seattle, he represented indigent clients in state and federal court. In private practice at the Seattle firm of Schroeter, Goldmark & Bender, he represented a broad range of clients, He has tried over 200 criminal cases to verdict and more than a dozen civil cases representing plaintiffs suing corporate and government

Run&Shoot Filmworks, producer of the OSCAR® qualifying Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival (MVAAFF), is a film production company credited with creating outstanding visual work for several clients including HBO, Martell Cognac, Reebok, NBC Sports, and Footlocker. For the past 18 years, Run and Shoot Filmworks has produced the MVAAFF with the primary goal of providing a positive environment where filmmakers can share their thoughts, ideas and aspirations. In 2019, Run&Shoot Filmworks created the Color of Conversation Film Festival in Denver, CO with the same mission of supporting the works of filmmakers of color.entities. In recent years, he has traveled the country speaking hard truths in a groundbreaking talk on racism in America.
