Barrio E’ Bomba Dance and Percussion Workshops

Barrio E’ (Neighborhood Is) is a project based in Boulder serving Colorado communities aiming to build a diverse community that embraces Puerto Rican Culture. The organization was created to foster and develop an artistic space that exposes, educates, and promotes traditional Puerto Rican music.

Bomba is the earliest known musical genre from Puerto Rico, documented since the mid 17th Century.  Bomba originated in the coastal areas of the island close to the sugar cane factories. It is influenced by three different cultures: Taíno (natives indigenous), the Spanish and African cultures. Instruments: Bomba drums (“barriles”), cuá and maraca. 

These workshops teach:

    Cuembé Percussion techniques.
    Bomba Musical Genre: Bomba Drums, Cuá and Maraca of Higüera.
    Cuembé Dance steps and technique.
    History and background of the musical genre.
    Song: meaning and intonation.

Workshop schedule:

    Kids Class (6 yrs-12 yrs old) - 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. (Dance and Cua-Percussion)
    Ladies Dance Piquetes Class II - 11:00-12:00 m. - Bomba Dance Technique Class.
    (you can bring your kids however the class will focus on Teenagers, Adults and Seniors)

Cost:

$15 per class non-members
$12 per class members
